York is to host its first-ever chocolate festival next year.
The four-day event will celebrate a host of household name brands that were created in the city, from Chocolate Orange and Smarties to Aero and Kit Kat.
It also will focus on the local artisan chocolate makers and skilled chocolatiers who fill York’s restaurants, shops and hotels with delectable cakes, pastries, chocolates and desserts.
There will be a “chocolate market” showcasing local chocolate makers’ creations, and also chocolate tastings, workshops and specialist insights into the history, technology, product development and industry of confectionery in York.
The festival will run from Friday, April 6, to Monday April 9, as York celebrates 800 years as a self-governing city and also as the city opens its latest visitor attraction, The Sweet History Of York, a museum celebrating the city’s past and future in the confectionery industry.
